Introduction

This is an experiment, being conducted with a class of art school freshmen. Previously in this class, Orientation to Art and Design, our first assignment was a zine project. However, at this point zines are dated enough that we spent a good deal of our time discussing what zines were, rather than working on writing and research. As blogs are a more contemporary form of self-published culture, it seemed a blog might be a good replacement for the zine. Hopefully the linking and commenting functions will engender more discussion of the topics at hand, even for students who are shy about speaking in class, as well as making it easier to share research and knowledge.
